About Us
Hi, we're Aura
We're a small team based in Chelmsford, Essex, with a serious interest in traditional Chinese herbal medicine. We make authentic Chinese herbal supplements and functional herbal teas for people who want something with real tradition behind it rather than another synthetic capsule.
Our range covers more than fifty classical formulas, most of which have been in continuous recorded use for centuries, alongside a small range of functional herbal teas. Everything we sell is 100% natural, vegan-friendly and gluten-free.
Where We Come From
Aura Nutrition is part of the Phoenix NutriScience group. Our parent company, Phoenix Medical, has supplied the traditional Chinese medicine industry for over two decades and has a strong presence across mainland Europe.
That matters more than it might sound. Phoenix has spent those years supplying qualified practitioners: acupuncturists, herbalists and TCM clinics who depend on consistent quality and who notice immediately when a batch is not right. Meeting that standard year after year is what built the supply chain Aura draws on today.
When we launched Aura, the idea was simple. Take the sourcing, testing and formulation standards that professionals already relied on, and make them available to everyone.
How We Source
The quality of a herbal product is decided long before it reaches a tablet. Herbs are agricultural products, and where they are grown, when they are harvested and how they are processed all change what you end up with.
We work to the principle of DaoDi, the traditional Chinese standard holding that a herb should be grown in its authentic region of origin and harvested at the correct point in its season. It is the difference between a herb that carries its traditional character and one that merely shares its name.
Our herbs come from trusted farmers in those traditional growing regions, through supplier relationships built over many years.
How We Make Our Supplements
Every formula in our range is standardised to a 5:1 concentration ratio. In practice, one 60-tablet bottle weighs 36g and represents the equivalent of 180g of raw herbs.
Each formula is extracted differently, in either water or alcohol, with extraction medium, temperature and cooking time set according to the chemical make-up of the herbs involved and the classical references for that preparation. The extract is then compressed into tablets. It is slower and more expensive than making everything the same way, and it is the reason the formulas behave as they should.
You can read more in our guide to herb extract concentration and why 5:1 matters.
Testing and Certification
Our supplements are:
- Registered as food supplements in the EU and recognised by the FSA
- Manufactured to GMP certification
- Tested by SGS laboratories, with lab reports and COA certificates available
- 100% plant-based, vegan and vegetarian, gluten-free and non-GMO
- Supplied in 100% recyclable packaging
What We Believe
Traditional Chinese herbal medicine has been refined over a very long time. Formulas were recorded, tested in practice, adjusted and passed on across generations. That accumulated experience is worth taking seriously, and it deserves to be presented honestly rather than dressed up in claims it never made for itself.
So we describe our formulas the way the tradition describes them. We tell you what is in them, where it came from and how it was made, and we leave the exaggeration to others.
